I’ve always seen the glass as being half full, and think things can get better rather than couldn’t get worse. An optimist I think it is called. Or is that a person who makes spectacles? By the by, what I want to say today is: Don’t think to the future. Just assume there will be one.
Think back to the past by all means, but do it only for pleasure. Remember the good days and smile to yourself. Don’t wish those times to return. Wishes rarely come true.
Now that I’ve got that crap out of my system, I’ll tell you how it really is.
Life sucks. And then the phone bill arrives. You open your inbox to find out another dear friend has been told they have cancer. Don’t even think about switching on The News. “There’s always someone worse off than you.”
I often think of the one person on earth to whom you cannot say that. Where is he? Who is he? How miserable must his life be that you cannot tell him, “There’s always someone worse off than you,” when there isn’t.
Then I think: Fuck him, I only sold three books yesterday. But maybe tomorrow…
